Kaimahi Taiao, Me He Wai (Te Mana o Te Wai)
Te Rūnanga o Te Rarawa are searching for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join our exciting freshwater program – Me He Wai. A Te Mana o Te Wai funded project engaging with hapū, marae, wider whānau and individual landowners, to plan for and implement the improvement of freshwater.

Me He Wai
Me He Wai has two objectives:
Support tangata whenua to build their capacity and capability in and make decisions for freshwater management.
Improve the health of freshwater bodies of importance to tangata whenua and create nature-based employment opportunities.
The project will be implemented between 2022 and 2025, focused within the rohe of Te Rarawa and will be brought to life across 23 marae and hapū. Central to the project’s design are the aspirations of each marae – these will inform an individualised approach to the mahi.
Each marae will be supported to contribute to a data collection framework that they can use to monitor taiao health in their own rohe.
Kaimahi Taiao
The Kaimahi Taiao are a field based operational team. Kaimahi Taiao will be trained and supported to:
- Develop the skills to monitor the health of freshwater in the Te Rarawa rohe.
- Understand the health of the Taiao through both scientific and Matauranga Maori approach.
- Build knowledge and skills associated with environmental restoration – fencing, pest and weed control, planting, etc.
Kaimahi Taiao will work well in a team setting, have a passion for the environment and their hapū development. They will support the Project Team in their deliverables.
Applicants will preferably have:
- a qualification or relevant experience working in the environmental space.
- You will demonstrate awareness of tikanga Māori, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to build constructive relationships with colleagues and project partners.
