Te Rarawa whānau strong in their identity, active with their marae, and making a contribution.

Tirohanga Whānui: Rūnanga Mission

The mission of Te Rūnanga o Te Rarawa is to provide the means for hapū and marae to develop their resources within each rohe, to enhance the well-being of all of Te Rarawa.

Role of Marae Delegate

As an elected representative, the marae delegate may from time to time advocate their own marae/hapū interests, as they are accountable to the marae/hapū that they represent.  However, the marae delegate shall also cultivate a unity of purpose and make decisions in the best interests of the Rūnanga and the Iwi as a whole.

Generally, the role of the marae delegate includes (but is not exclusive to):

  • Setting the strategic direction for the Rūnanga group and monitoring the group progress against approved plans.
  • Representing the Rūnanga in a positive, professional manner that reflects and promotes pride within Te Rarawa Iwi.
  • Establishing and maintaining an effective relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implementing obligations from Te Rarawa Claims Settlement Act 2015.

The marae delegate shall also:

  • Remain actively involved with their hapū marae.
  • Report regularly to their hapū marae.
  • Attend hapū marae meetings as required.
  • Not allow a conflict of interest to arise between their duties as a hapū marae representative and a trustee.
