Chairperson Election Process 2026
Here are some frequently asked questions regarding the voting process for the election of chair for Te Rūnanga o Te Rarawa.
“What is the voting process?”
The voting process will be conducted in accordance with Schedule 2 of the Trust Deed.
(1) The method of voting is Preferential Voting System (Single Transferable Voting is a form of PVS), where members rank the candidates in the order of their preference.
(2) Adult Registered Members have one vote within the Hapū Marae for Voting Purposes.
(3) The candidate that wins a majority of votes within a Hapū Marae receives one Marae Vote.
(4) The candidate that wins a majority of the Marae Votes is elected Chairperson.
“When will whānau receive their voting papers?”
Voting opened on Friday 13th February 2026.
(1) Adult Registered Members without a unique email address will receive their voting information by post from this day, although some members may receive their voting pack in the post in the days following.
(2) Adult Registered Members without an email address or postal address are still eligible to vote but will need to contact the Office of the Rūnanga to provide contact information.
“Will the option of voting online be available?”
Yes, it will be.
(1) Adult Registered Members who receive their voting information by email will be able to vote online. Their email will contain a link to the online voting platform, as well as login credentials.
(2) Adult Registered Members who receive their voting information by post will be able to vote by return post using the Reply Paid Envelope provided, or by returning to the Office of the Rūnanga who can post on their behalf, or they can simply vote online as their voting paper will also include a link to online voting platform as well as login credentials.
