Shell be right: 90 Mile Beach turtle on road to recovery | RNZ News

Turtles occasionally strand on Te-Oneroa-A-Tōhē in a very exhausted state. When this happens, Te Rarawa and DOC work together to transport the turtle to Kelly Tarlton’s for recovery as quickly as possible. If the turtle survives, it is usually brought returned to the place where it was found and released.

In February 2012, Te Rarawa, DOC, Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World, and Massey University PhD Student, Dan Godoy jointly organised the release of two green turtles at Te Paripari in Ahipara. This release marked the celebration of Seaweek, and was a very happy and emotional event attended by approximately 100 people, including lots of tamariki
