2019 Scholarships

The purpose of the scholarships is to assist and promote higher education amongst the descendants of the Iwi of Te Rarawa.

The value and number of scholarships awarded may vary from year to year depending on available funds. The Tarutaru me Ruapounamu Memorial Tertiary Scholarships that commemorate our tupuna rangatira Tarutaru and Ruapounamu, and represent the qualities and characteristics of commitment, leadership and tenacity, are considered the top annual awards.

2019 scholarships include:

  • Tarutaru me Ruapounamu Memorial; $2,000 each year for up to three years (subject to receipt of your annual progress report and confirmation each year that papers have been passed).
  • Several other Te Runanga o Te Rarawa scholarships for studies that align with Runanga strategic direction, including:
    • Two $3,000 awards for Business and/or Primary Industry related studies
    • $2,000 award for Social Science related studies
  • Kotare Trust scholarship awarded by Dame Joan Metge; $2,500.

The Runanga is particularly interested in supporting students whose area of study and aspirations align with the direction being taken by the Runanga in the post-settlement environment (see Te Runanga o Te Rarawa long term strategic plan), and those who contribute or have plans to contribute in some way to their marae, hapu or iwi.
