Thank you for your interest in applying to Te Rūnanga o Te Rarawa (the Rūnanga) for a Tertiary Scholarship. The purpose of these scholarships is to assist and promote higher education amongst the descendants of the Iwi of Te Rarawa.

The value and number of scholarships awarded may vary from year to year depending on available funds. The Tarutaru me Ruapounamu Memorial Tertiary Scholarships commemorate our tūpuna-rangatira, Tarutaru and Ruapounamu. These scholarships represent the qualities and characteristics of commitment, leadership and tenacity; and are considered the top annual awards.

2018 Scholarships

1. Tarutaru me Ruapounamu Memorial Scholarship

Value: $2000.00 per year for up to three years. Continuation is subject to receipt of your annual progress report and confirmation that annual papers have been passed;

2. Various scholarships for studies that align with the strategic direction of the Rūnanga including:

  • Kotare Trust Scholarship awarded by Dame Joan Metge, valued at $2,500.
  • Two scholarships for Business and / or Primary Industry related studies, valued at $3,000 each.
  • One scholarship for Social Science related studies, valued at $3,000.

The Rūnanga is particularly interested in supporting students whose aspirations and area of study align with the post-settlement direction of the Rūnanga as set out in the Rūnanga’s long term strategic plan. In addition, the Rūnanga seeks to support those applicants who either currently or plan to contribute to their marae, hapū or iwi.
